If you’re new to affiliate marketing, it makes a world of difference if you have access to step-by-step training that puts you on the right track. The right training will save you months, if not years of banging your head against a brick wall.
E-commerce websites are a bit different. You can still use affiliate marketing on them, but you’re right, how well you do with affiliate marketing is often dependent on your traffic. Still, some key affiliates on a static website can still bring in some decent income. And you’re right that “if you build it they will come” no longer applies to websites anymore given the sheer number of websites on the internet. My suggestion is to get out there, take part in forums where your potential customers would hang out, comment on blogs providing useful information and do your best to get your name out there in as many ways as you can think of.
If you are promoting a high ticket item e.g. over $1000 you might want to create several pages about the product. If you are promoting low ticket items e.g. under $30 then you can have several items on a page. You might also want to promote other compatible items.
Very nice article! Affiliate marketing is perfect for bloggers as long as they offer quality content and are upfront about it. If people are willing to donate money to YouTubers via Patreon, why wouldn’t they buy something that they want or need through the site or blog of someone that offers them great content and support his or her efforts? It’s a win – win kind of deal.
On the other hand, there’s Pay Per Lead. This form of payment is typically reserved for markets where leads are very easy to generate, and the product is either easy to sell – due to limited options or the customer has an immediate need.
A personal example is a post I just did about two competing golf technologies Game Golf and Arccos Golf. They both do variations of the same thing, but no one had played as many rounds with both systems as I had. So I created a definitive post which has sent a lot of traffic, and a few sales, my way over the last couple weeks.
This is real informatic information. I found this one real meaningful, wow! you truly showing the way affiliate works. Can you give me a ballpark figure of how much an average marketer might make in a week? Also, do you know anything about the Andrew Morrison program? Is there anything you can tell me before I go ahead and buy this program?
If that’s all you’re aiming for, then you shouldn’t have any problems. As long as you choose a market with enough consumer interest. The poll represents mostly CPA arbitrage affiliates. To earn the big money, paid traffic is your best friend. But yes, $1000/day is a pretty standard target for CPA affs. You have to set your targets high because the business is so volatile.
Fake reviews are out of control. WA appears to have systematized a “fake review factory,” but other companies and also rogue affiliates have made this so widespread, especially for products related to “make money” and general “old school” net marketing, that sorting out good from bad requires an experienced, professional eye.
I was able to make my first online dollars through Amazon Affiliate sales… It was never much and in the beginning I was just excited to make $10 in a month, which was enough for a free ebook or two. With regular updates and link inclusions in my posts over time I was able to grow the number up to like $300 a month–which I was pretty happy with. Of course the payout rates are paltry compared to a sale of an info product like one from Unconventional Guides, etc. Thing is, people seem to be more open to purchasing physical products rather than information products…
Hi Amy! I’ve been reading your blog for a couple weeks now. I’m setting up my blog, but haven’t started posting yet. Your site has been incredibly helpful! I just signed up with LinkShare and was approved by my first advertiser. I’m attempting to do “Deep Linking” to a product I think will be of interest to my readers. I’m attempting to put the ad in the sidebar, but haven’t yet succeeded. LinkShare gave me the code, but I don’t know what to do with it. I tried putting it in a text widget, but that didn’t work. (I’m using WordPress.org and Atahualpa.) I tried to search your site for instructions, but haven’t found any. Do you have instructions for that?

I’ve just got to hear about affiliate marketing and am really a newbie to this matter. The post above was so great and helpful for a person like me. I also took a look at locationrebel which seemed very exciting to me. I wonder if those courses and blueprints are still applicable because as far as I’ve seen, the reviews and testimonials all refer to the year 2013. It was the only reason that hold me back from joining the Locationrebel. I would be very thankful if you help me with this matter.
